Why I Create Slowly (and Why That Matters More Than Ever)

Creating art hasn’t always been about productivity for me. In fact, the slower I allow myself to create, the more grounded I feel.
As a mum to two sons — one autistic, and one who has faced cancer — life has taught me how quickly things can feel overwhelming. There have been seasons where my nervous system felt constantly on edge, where the future felt uncertain, and where I needed somewhere to land.
For me, that place became art.
Mandala dot painting gave me permission to slow my breath, to focus on one tiny dot at a time, and to stay in the present moment. It wasn’t about perfection or outcome — it was about steadiness.
In a world that constantly asks us to do more, faster, louder… choosing to create slowly can feel almost radical.
Slow creativity reminds us that:
Progress doesn’t have to be rushed
Beauty can be built gently
Calm can be created, even in chaos
This is the heart behind everything I make and share — my art, my workshops, my newsletter, and this space.
If you’ve ever felt drawn to mandala dot art not just because of how it looks, but because of how it feels, you’re not alone. There is so much quiet power in choosing softness.
And sometimes, one small dot at a time is exactly enough.
